£82 default on report from 2006. Only blemish!

Hello,
I recently checked my credit report with Experian and it was all fine apart from 1 default for an £82 payment to betting firm Sporting Index in 2006.
The default was placed on Jan 2006 and I settled it in full in Mar 2006.
I can't believe they put a default notice in for such as small amount. I now have problems getting credit/mortgage. I wondered why I was getting rejected, now I know why!
I'm not sure if they sent the correct paperwork at the time but I'm now following the advice in this thread and sending in the formal letters asking them to substantiante ...

The lady on the phone was no help, just saying I defaulted so end of story. I may as well try to get it removed (nothing ventured, nothing gained).
So annoying as it's such as small amount, and is the only black mark on an otherwise spotless credit report.
I dont recall ever signing anything with them. They said I agreed to their terms blah blah.
Does anyone have any other advice about getting this removed?

So what you are saying is that it's telling the truth but you want the truth removed?
Tough (if that's the case).
Lenders want to see the truth so that they can decide whether to lend or not.0 -
seeing as it's such a small amount you would've been better off paying it0

Thanks for replies.
I did pay it. But too late as they put the default in.
Can't remember getting the official letter telling me they were gonna do that.
Doubt I would've neglected to pay such a small amount.
Oh well. :-(0 -
You may have innocently foroet, but lenders want this information so that know who will make their payments on time and who will inccocently forget.
It's not your motives that count, it's whether you pay on time.
Paying on time is important as these things stay on your credit report for 6 years and affect your ability to get credit including mortgages so you need to make it a higher priority to pro-actively pay and not wait to be reminded.0 -
Yeah I understand that. i feel so foolish to let this happen over a poxy £82.0

they have a statutory duty to send you notification that they are going to default you .
write formally complaining that you didn't receive the notice and ask for a prove that they sent one0
