I keep getting electric shocks when I used my lap top. I have got a mac and if I touch any of the usb's on the left I get really bad electric shocks.
This was bad enough but now I get them from the car, the door handle, cups, glass, the storage heater, my boyfriend!!!
Is it me? What can I do? Driving me mad

I get them as well, but I think I am highly charged :rotlf:, I get it off the TV, the VCR basically anything metal that pugs in. Drives me mad, you might find that you normally only get it in one area, just dont tooch that bit
And I think you will look fab in the wellies :beer:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Last year I kept getting static electricity shocks at home mainly in the living room. This year I don't. The only change is that I have different slippers!0

This is the fashionable kit to prevent the build up of pesky electrostatic charges. A Low humidity environment and lots of friction between footware and flooring, clothes and chair etc, can generate a static potential of 25000 Volts on a person. New shoes, carpets, clothes seem better at generating static than than old ones. A sudden discharge to an earthed object can be painful and damaging to electronic equipment. If the discharge is done gradually over a second then nothing is felt.
You could try splitting an anti-static bag and attaching one side to a wire that is earthed. In touching the surface of the plastic a slow discharge will take place to earth through the slightly conductive plastic. In touching the earthed wire a rapid discharge will take place. The choice is yours.

Get rid of the nylon undies and "go commando"!!!
Seriously though, discharge yourself before touching electronic equipment - the static could easily damage it.0 -
Stop wearing cheap trainers and shuffling your feet over carpets
. I am forever getting shocks which can be very embarassing when you meet someone for the first time, go to shake hands and electrocute them. Since I switched to wearing Sketchers the problem has gone away.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Hi everyone
Yes thanks for those replies! I think it's case of new slippers on new carpet in my spare room, which unfortunately is supposed to be my newly decorated office. My big pink fluffy boot slippers seem to be the worst offender so I'll have to be careful with those especially on nylon undies days!
I would try the 'how to discharge the electirc suggestion' but you lost me on about the third word.
Anyway thanks for all your help and from now on I'll pick my feet up when I walk and ditch the cheap trainers! :beer:Murphy's No More Pies Member No. 28 on hold0
