do you have to start paying as soon as you buy a place, even it needs major refurbishment and you wont be moving in for 6 months?
Thanks

Not if the property is completely unfurnished. Once furniture is in situ it's a different story. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Hi,
We are having major work done to our house - new boiler, kitchen, bathroom etc (everything infact) Everything has been ripped out and an inspector from the council came and has agreed to an exemption, they check the property around every 3 months. This exemption can last up to 1 year.
Also - we initially paid 50% for unfurnished until the property was inspected. Once the exemption was agreed we got a quick refund. From what i gathered council tax is linked to the property rather than the occupier so you will also need to check that the property hasnt already used its reduction/exemption allowance.0 -
thanks all. just rang the council and have got an exemption for up to 12 months while i carry out the works... so theres £1000 saved! :money:
