Divorce & inheritance

Hi everyone,
I know I may be clutching at straws here but if someone could give me some advice, I would be very grateful.
My husband, who left 5 years ago, has just found out that both my parents have recently passed away and has now started divorce proceedings as he knows I stand to inherit from the estate.
Is it possible to forfeit my right to the inheritance to avoid it being taken into account as part of the settlement or will this make matters worse?

Get yourself to a solicitor asap. There shouldn't be any need to forfeit your inheritance because the financial settlement of a divorce is usually based on your situations at the time of separation (especially when it was so long ago!)
But always best to get proffesional advice.0 -
I was told that the inheritance would reduce the amount I would need from the divorce settlement and the courts would take an unfavourable view if I tried to minimise my assets.0

See a solicitor as soon as possible.
Your ex can claim on any money you inherit, and a solicitor will advise the best way forward. Try and find a solicitor who is a member of the Family Panel, as they have taken more training in divorce and family law.
If you live in the north east, I can recommend a fab man who'll sort it out. Here I go again on my own....0
