Hi all,
I hope you can help me.It is my sons birthday in a couple of weeks. He will be 12.He really wants a laptop for his birthday.Thing is i don't want to spend any more than £300.He will use it to surf the net and homework mostly.I have seen 2 that seem quite good for the money. The first is a compaq cq60-305ea and the other is hp g60-213em.They are both £300.Which one would be best or does anyone know of any better ones? Thanks very much you will help make my son very happy!

There's little difference in spec except the HP has in Intel processor and the Compaq has an AMD processor (HP & Compaq are actually the same company so there are probably more similarities). Personally I have had issues with the quality of Compaq laptops, but I prefer Intel processors, so it's a difficult one.
Personally I would pay an extra £50 and choose one with a dual-core processor - PCWorld have the ones you mention, but also have Acer and Toshiba dual core models at £350 - the Acer has 3Gb of memory which would make a big difference. There's also an Advent with 2Gb memory and Home Premium rather than Home Basic. The extra cash widens your choice a lot.0 -
dell have some good deals, they are always better than other laptops ive seen out there and offer good warranty if things go wrong.Kind Regards

Hi.
I too am looking for a laptop - spotted one on Tesco Direct which is currently reduced from £479 to £348. It's an Acer with the dual core processer and has 3GB of memory...Am thinking this sounds like a good price, but would be happy to be told otherwise if thats the case!LHS No 2220
