Before I had my lightbulb moment I used to get my hair cut and coloured regularly at very posh salon in London. In fact all 3 of us (me and 2 daughters) used to go there regularly, never cost less than £150 a time! Now I go to the local salon where they charge £30 for cut and highlights.

It is very difficult to find a decent hairdresser, one that actually cuts or styles what you want!

At the moment I go to a hairdresser who works from home, I used to have it cut/blow/highlights but was costing £45. Since being made redundant I now colour it myself and now just get her to cut&blowdry it, costs £20 - I could probably get it cheaper elsewhere, but she does a great job and as i dont have to have it dont so often now i obviously save money than i did before.

I cut my eldest son with the hair clippers, which is easy if you take it straight off (in summer) othertimes I just lightly run it through to trim it up - I now do my youngest son with them aswell. As for my daughter shes a problem, she wont let anyone touch her hair (typical moany girlie) the boys sit fine no problem! All I manage to do is a straight across fringe cut with the scissors to keep it out of her eyes (usually DH holding her!!) If only she would let me tie it back occasionally or put a clip in it!! but she wont - looks like a gypsy most of the time - combined with the fact that she is one of those always looks messy kids (food down her clothes) wearing different welly boots!!!! other people seem to have nicely dressed pretty girls, but she aint!!! she's a real character though and we love her!! funny thing! (sorry for going off track)

Years ago I used to have my hair cut by a man years, he was good to, so have often thought of going to a barbers - men pay about half the price women pay! and get something for the weekend sir!! ha ha ha

I rebelled when the high street salon I'd been going to for about 10 years started charging £20 for a wet cut! It's just unaffordable on benefit. I now go to a salon round the corner from my house - it's the old-fashioned sort where elderly ladies go for a shampoo-and-set and a mauve rinse! but the owner does a really good wet cut for £8.50. Mind you, at 52 I think I'm her youngest customer by about 25 years. I wouldn't feel comfortable there if I were much younger. In the meantime it's ideal and I don't know what i'll do when she decides to retire!

That's the sort of hairdresser my mum is so my hairstyles are free and always have been ;) . When mum turned 60, it co-incided with the shop lease being up but mum just went mobile, splitting the round with her staff.

    and London???

I think alot of hairdressers have become very trendy salons now to what they used to be and now charge expensive prices, just like whats happened to these trendy coffee bars - how much do they charge for a cup of coffee - about £2-£3!!!!! - in a good old cafe probably about 80p for a big mug! :D

London prices are sky high. Highlights and blow dry by a 2nd year apprentice in a Muswell Hill salon £54. They charge £10 just for the blow dry which I queried because surely they would not want you to leave the shop with wet hair and not seeing the result of their labours. They would not relent and charged me the whole whack.

I always go to Videl Sasson Hairdressng School for a hair cut and always pleased with the results, there highlights are £18, but £38 including blow dry if you go to their advanced academy.

I haven't had my hair cut since i was 12. It grows until it reaches about half way down my back and then just falls out, always has done since i can remember. Lucky i get a lot of regrowth which also make my hair look really thick. No need for colour either as it is Auburn and there is not a lot you can do for a true redhead when it comes to colour. I don't think it looks too bad as it usually just takes care of itself and sets in big curls.
  • I have a wetcut-no blowdry. I leave the shop with it wet as Im home in less than 5 mins by car. Costs £13. I think its a lot of money for 10 mins work. In between cuts I give my hubby a pair of scissors and I buy my colourant in Superdrug-their own brand, usually 2 for a fiver.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
