Is renting a good idea in the current climate?

Buying to rent out.
Put an ad. for the type of property in the exact area you propose to buy in the local paper at the rent you think you'll get and see:
- how many calls you get
- the type of tenant you may have to deal with
A £15 quid ad. will tell you more than a LA looking to get your business (he'll promise you £700 to get you on board and probably get you £600 but at 10% commission little difference to him - a lot of green landlords misled as to rental levels) or an EA looking to sell with a quoted yield... do your own research direct to the tenants....0 -
I know I am probably asking a lot but do you know of any stats that provide information such as number of rented house per area and demand?
Hmmmnnn new-ish member, not many posts, well know point that there are no/very-few/unreliable statistics...
..., do we have a Troll who will later launch his own stats site or, as I am sure is the case, a genuine punter searching after knowledge,...???
Cheers!
