MSN problem

I had a problem and was told to uninstall MSN then download it again.
Now when I sign in and try to view my emails it takes me to a blue screen where I am aked to sign in:confused:What have I done wrong?

I also hate the new layout and wish i'd not bothered!

The problem with MSN is that they update it then take the time to add a few 'tweaks', it's this reason why people don't take to updating the thing as they know that MS will change bits, so an unfamiliar experience from what's expected creates unease in the person deploying then using it.

What you essentially need to do is uninstall it, then use something like ccleaner to clear out the registry, then redeploy MSN using the updated version. If you're sick of going through the whole process, you could install something like trillian, that way you get a standardised interface irrespective of the updates, the only problem is that they MS constantly update the protocols used for file transfer, so there maybe a bit of lag when the author updates their overlay, but it used to be around 24 hours and would continue as normal. So install MSN, but instead of logging into MSN log in using Trillian http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

-do NOT install the yahoo toolbar.
-Use this to clean the registry, once you're sure you've gotten rid of most of the rubbish. It asks you to backup the registry first, do so just in case. Also if you automatically log into various sites using cookies, or use the My Documents List under the Start Menu, be aware that this program WILL delete EVERYTHING! So you may wish to with the program open select Applications and untick MRU's. Otherwise you'll be entering usernames and passwords after running the program, even easier is to install www.lastpass.com and create an account under your email address, then have it scan your computer and retrieve any username and password logins that it discovers. You can then login to this account nexttime you reboot safe in the knowledge that that information is safe, so choose your password carefully.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

    Atomised

When you are signed in on Messenger, go to Tools > Options, click on the Security tab and make sure to uncheck the box next to "Ask for my password when I go to Hotmail and other websites that require a Windows Live ID". then click Apply and OK.

    That should fix it.

Hmmm, I'm using XP so not sure.

Have you tried installing Windows Live Mail? It should automatically configure your Hotmail settings.

If you've installed MSN 2009, you can still get version 8.1 from various places.
We've still got it as my OH didn't like the new layout/interface.

There is some weird stuff going on with MSN, basically it no longer logs you onto your email account automatically when you click on the email button. You need to log on via the MSN/Live site and tell it to remember you. It should then work fine.....

This was changed apparently due to the number of MSN viruses that were stealing peoples account/password information.

For me the most annoying thing is the adverts and the groups/categories, all of which took ages to fix thanks to a totally new GUI.
