Some urgent advice needed here please
Due to the rocketing oil prices last year and for environmental reasons we got rid of our oil boiler and bought a wood pellet boiler in November 08. It was 10K. The company we bought it from was small and did not accept credit cards but as we didnt want to hand over this amount of money we paid by credit card via Paypal....
The boiler has never worked correctly. we have had regular contact with the company, who have informed us of loads of reasons why it isnt working, but have now admitted that it is a design fault and that the boiler is not fit for purpose, and will never work.
However they are also refusing to give us our money back and simply threaten to go into liquidation if we push things.
Can anyone advice how I can claim this back from my credt card especally as I used paypal, and I see that ths may mean the Credit Card Company can refuse. and I see that Paypal only protect up to £500.00 for 45 days after purchase
We are in desperate need here, as without the refund, we will not have any heating for our house over winter, and I have two young children, and my elderly parents all living with me.
Thanks in advance

You did not say how long since purchased item? There is a time limit. 10K seems like a lot of money to pay for a wood burning boiler.
In my case I bought an item on eBay which turned out to be fake. I went through the painful Paypal complaints procedure and got nowhere as the company "no longer registered user". I registered a dispute with my credit card company and got a full refund.

Thanks for the post
It was November 08 when we bought the Boiler. although it has never worked correctly, breaking down on average every 2 weeks. As I state the installer / suppliers agree that it isnt as never was fit for purpose.
10K is relatively cheap for the boiler we bought, usual price for the spec was about 13K. of course we now know why it was cheap.
Interesting that you got the creditcard company to pay up, any tips

Why not go to trading standards or small claims court directly against the contractor? They may or may not go bust, but you cannot be in a worse position. If the company is a sole trader or partnership you can persue the owners personally.0

Small claims court does seem to beckon, the company has only 2 people, however they have limited status, so if they do go down, i think its doubtfull we will get anything back.

If they are a partnership and cannot pay up, you can go for their houses.
EDIT: Sorry just reread your last post, I had assumed when you said limited status you meant they were chavs.0
