Sainsburys money off vouchers

It's always worth registering on the Sainsbury's website.
I got a nice voucher through the post today for a 300g box of Cadbury's Creme Egg Mini's normal price £2.99p. Straight off to my local Sainsbury to redeem it. Very nice lady at the checkout "Do you have a Nectar card, sir?"
Me "You're going to give me Nectar points for something which I haven't paid for? Brilliant."

I have received approx. £10 worth of money off vouchers for pets foods from Sainsbury's. Does anyone know whether Sainsbury's will take these off your normal shopping, or if you have to buy the goods in question?
