Low energy GU10 light bulbs?
Comments

Very slightly bigger but not much, the candles are more or less same size only issues with them is to warm up0

We have had the same problem - most low energy gu10 bulbs are longer than the standard ahlogen types and thus stick out of the socket.
We did however find some 7 watt (30 watt equiv) lamps that were the same size and these fitted perfectly in our kitchen and bathroom fittings from Cheap Energy Saving light bulbs.
Lets hope they can make the 40w and 50w equiv versions smaller soon or even bring out some LED versions for the 50w halogens..0 -
I bought these LED bulbs. http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/u1015cw-gu10-wide-angle-cool-white-p-1976.html They are exactly the same dimensions as GU10.
They are said to be equivalent to 30watt, but in practice I find them almost as bright as 50watt halogens. They are rather pricey, but they are cheaper to run and do last.
These are even more expensive> http://www.yourwelcome.co.uk/acatalog/GU10_LED_Lamps.html They are said to be as bright as GU10s"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

A cheaper green option could be to replace your downlighters with these > http://www.yourwelcome.co.uk/acatalog/LOW_ENERGY_____span_style__color___ff0000______FIREPROOF_____span_____Fixed_Downlighter___Lamp.htmlhttp://www.yourwelcome.co.uk/acatalog/LOW_ENERGY_____span_style__color___ff0000______FIREPROOF_____span_____Fixed_Downlighter___Lamp.html"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

How can they be as cheap as or even cheaper than just a single energy saving bulb???0 -
Are all these low energy & LED bulbs dark &/or too-expensive?
Both I'd say. The light output from both CFL and LED is dull and garish in my opinion, a bit like lighting your room by leaving a black and white TV on in the corner.
I've tried several times to switch over to low energy but go back to halogen every time. If you are going to try some I'd recommend picking them up from B&Q or somewhere local that will allow you to take them back if they're not to your liking."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
LEDs/CFLs with cold white or daylight colour temperature are much too clinical or office like for me and a bit too bluish and cold feeling...but if you go for a warm white or very warm white colour temperature they will be closer to the light emitted by your standard tungsten light bulb. There is a big difference! A tungsten bulb has a colour temperature of around 2700K i believe. We have energy saving light fittings in our lounge that take 18W 4-pin G24q-2 bulbs - i swapped all the bulbs from cold white to very warm white...the difference was quite dramatic.

I found those after quite a lot of research. I would suggest that there is a huge mark up on low energy bulbs.
I do not find low energy bulbs are are as bright as the manufacturers claim and I hate the delay before they achieve max output.
I prefer the cool blue output from my LEDs rather than the yellow output from halogen. However if that is not to your taste the 2900K is very similar in colour to a standard halogen bulb.
You get a similar effect when comparing the colour from of a standard car headlight/ halogen/ zenon."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I have fitted 2 x 5watt gu10 LED spot lamps in my kitchen. They are MAINS led lamps. If you look at this site ... http://www.kulekat.com/led-home-lighting/home.html you will find that mains led's give out the equivulent light of 10 times the wattage of the led wattage. So my 2 x 5watt lamps FULLY light my kitchen.
I have a 1 watt mains LED spot lamp in a desk lamp that is shining down on my keyboard as I type this ! It is great for this job. Once again it is 240 volt gu10 LED. also I leave it on as a background light for TV.

Hope this is of help.Borrow money from pessimists- they don't expect it back.
