Web cam help plz

Hubby has just returned from the UK & he's bought a new Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000.
The webcam is working fine but everytime we go on the webcam settings to change the settings or the kids want to make a video e.t.c it dis-connects the pc
& the pc has to start up again.
Can any of you brill techie people tell me whats going on ????? Any advice would be much appreciated
