I noticed from rightmove that it is possible to see what people paid for their house or what they sold it for.
I am concerned about this info as due to a family situation it is important a certain individual doesn't find out as he will inevitably just start harassing us again.
Does anyone know how to go about stopping the price being publicised?

As far as i am aware this can be obtained from the Land Registry anytime anyway, for a £3 fee.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Sold house prices are public domain I believe, so there's nothing you can do to stop it.
They can view the sold price for free on www.houseprices.co.uk - the sold price will appear a few months after the property is sold.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
There's nothing you can do about it. Sometimes they don't appear at all
Seems to be something special about the houses I own!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Oh dear
why is it public domain if that isn't a silly question? I wouldn't be able to find out how much my neighbours paid for their new car or their weekly shopping!

Well, the sale of a car or the weekly shop isn't related to anything that is controlled by the Govt; fair enough, they take their VAT and other taxes, but the clue is in the name of the dept - Land Registry - a govt dept charged with recording, registering, who owns the land in the country. They just happen to keep a note of what people paid for it as well.0

It's fair enough for them to note how much was paid for each house but making it public knowledge I'm afraid still makes little sense to me.0

Well, from a buyer's point of view, it seems perfectly fair. If I were interested in a particular house in a particular area, I'd want to know how much similar houses in that area had sold for, just to be sure that the asking price was "fair". How else could I judge it? It's a huge investment, and it's only fair that people should know what the "market value" is. The only way we can judge that, is by knowing for how much similar properties have sold for.0

There are probably plenty of reasons but one main reason is that valuation of property is mainly done through comparative analysis. EAs, surveyors etc. rely on a data aggregator in a similar way to banks relying on a credit bureau to accurately price houses/loans respectively. It just happens to be a public rather than private body.0
