Will closing unused Bank Account affect my credit rating?

Hi

I have an account with Natwest which I used solely for eBay/Paypal

I no longer sell stuff on eBay so don't need this account anymore but does it make any difference if I close it or leave it open.

It has only had 1p in it for the last few months.

I am saving up my deposit for a mortgage and don't want to do something that will affect my chances of getting one.

My main account (wages, DD, savings etc) is with Co-op so i don't need the Natwest account for anything.

Thanks

Does it have an overdraft on it? If so it'd be better to close it as this is available credit.

    Hi

There is no overdraft on it and it has never gone overdrawn. Also it hasn't been used for the last 6-8 months.

I would say you are safe to close it....who knows they might come up with some interesting offer for "new" customers and you could be in line to qualify for that with that a/c closed and put away!!

I am a great believer in always having at least 2 accounts. You never know when / if the Coop might upset you and having NatWest setup in reserve could be useful. Think of it as insurance.
