US and UK Credit Report

Does anybody know if the UK and US credit reports are linked.

I may be re-locating to the US and I want to know if my credit file will go with me or, when I move, will I start will a new credit file?

They aren't linked, from memory when this query has come across before I think the recommendation was to get hold of a UK American Express, as apparently they are quite helpful in moving your Amex to an American account, as obviously you won't have any credit history in the States.

You'll start from scratch. The reason it doesn't work yet (will change next year though) is because different countries do not adhere to the same data protection principles. However all this will soon change soon.....

The old way made it easy to borrow loads over here, then move abroad for 6yrs and do same there, move back here owing nothing (statute barred and no links to old debt), then do the same again etc etc - obviously they had to do some something!
