best VFM afternoon tea in London

I am taking my daughter to London for 2 days next week, she has just finished her GCSE's and worked so hard, she is really looking forward to this break.

I got our hotel through priceline, and I've booked tickets for Priscilla for our first night, she likes a bit of culture so we will be heading to the British Museum and National Gallery, although I'm hoping we can make time for the Body Works exhibition as well, and hopefully see something at The Globe.

I've ordered my deals vouchers for food when we are there, but we would like to have afternoon tea, the prices seem reasonable through lastminute but would like a recommendation if possible. I did do it with a friend before in the National Gallery, it was nivce but nothing very special.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Fortnum & Mason do a nice afternoon tea although I am not sure of the price but I know that their full english breakfast with cereal, fry up, juice tea and toast costs £15. Its a great place to people watch and they have real tablecloths - mind you the whole store is just so old-fashioned its lovely.

Of course there is tea at the Ritz but you need to wear the right clothes and book in advance - I am not sure of the price as I have never been into the Ritz.

Thanks, the Ritz is beyond me, around £12-£15 pp is enough although I;d go up to £20 for an exceptional tea.

For something different, try St Martin-in-the-Fields Cafe Crypt. Afternoon tea for £5.25 and it is at a good location, just by the National Gallery

The other is the Orangery at Kensington Gardens. Reasonable and beautiful setting but there is usually a little queue

Sorry, I can't resist one more. It is one of my favourites

    La Duree at Harrods

The afternoon tea is expensive at £21 but I usually go for the tea and a few divine macaroons.

Definately agree with Fortnums, love the deli counter there too, which is actually cheaper than M&S across the road, for a really gorgeous picnic lunch, Green Park is just a 2 min walk up Piccadilly from the store.
Valeries I have been using them for 25 years, prefer the one in Old Compton Street, the others can be a bit hit and miss, but for a special day with a special daughter, I think Fortnums is so much better.
There is always icecream at Harrods for a treat too.

My sister likes the Orangery, but she is in her 50s, love to get a cup of tea in Hyde Park too, by the Serpentine, though it is not anything special catering wise, it is a lovely location to sit and relax, and only a short walk from either bottom of Oxford St ,or Harrods.
If it is only a one off, I would definately go with something that has been recommended, too many little rip off pattisseries and cafes to ention.

I hope you and your daughter have a really fantastic time;)
