yes but the law is that YOU must take reasonable care of the goods

right up un till they receive the goods

and like others have said, i also dont believe a bag is any were near adequate for a £700 player

what would you of thought if you had received it in a plastic bag?

ok so their claims are ludacris but you will have a very hard fight against you as you have failed to take reasonable care
it was one component not the whole thing!!

    that doesnt at all matter!

you cant keep using that to every reply

the united consensus on here that you have failed to properly care for the return of the component

now, i have also said that you should not be liable for the whole amount that they are attempting

but because you havnt taken care of the component, you will have a much harder fight and might well pay for it
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

I don't often agree with 4743hudsonj, but on this occasion he is bang on.

Whether 1 component or the whole system matters nothing, the fact is the op is under an obligation to take reasonable care of the goods and to ensure they are adequately packed.

Having said that, this is a bit of a red herring because there is no suggestion that any damage has been caused by bad packing, rather that some of the required components were missing. This may well be difficult to prove either way.

In answer to the OP's original question, no the company cannot insist that you return the original packaging, and therefore they cannot charge you £700. They may, however have a claim for the cost of any leads but I think they would struggle to prove you had not returned them.

I just don't understand why you would throw the pacgaging away so quickly.
