Tax credit bulk payment

I am currently being paid about £160 per week for tax credits. Its paid weekly and always has been.
Would I be able to request a bulk payment in advance of say £500 - as I am in financial hole and need to buy a new oven - and then have the rest of my payments reduced to say £110 a week?

No they don't prepay tax credits.

Have you tried freecycle? My oven went a few weeks ago and until I could afford to have it fixed we ate salads, cold food and used the microwave.

Why are you in a financial hole? Are you claiming other benefits?

No, we have just paid off loads of debts and dont want to get into any more, I have no credit cards now, paid off and cut up, same with loans etc. My pay for the month is gone now, otherwise I would of used some of that. Tried freecycle for last week but no luck sadly.
    Thanks for your help though.

Good for you paying off your credit cards and loans.

Can you not wait and just survive on salads, microwave meals etc until you can afford to pay for a new oven?

£500 is a lot for an oven - I am sure you can get one cheaper than that.

If you save the £50 a week instead, you'd have enough to get a pretty good oven in about 2 months time.

Don't be tempted into debt for it. I know how you feel as my oven is a bit dodgy at the moment and my microwave is unusable too, but I'm holding out until I have the cash in my hot little hand to pay for it - it just isn't worth the stress of owing more money imo.

I have a remoska and rarely use my oven anymore. (theres a huge thread on oldstyle about these!)This has really reduced my power bills as well. It may be worth looking out for one of these on freecycle of you don't want to buy new (the large is around £100.)
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Ooh, I've seen posts about those on OS but I thought people were talking about a brand of slow cooker! :o

I'll look with renewed interest now - they look really good!

It's best not to be tempted into debt for the oven. Rather think about what you are saving in energy costs by not using one. I have a good oven as i rent and it's my landlady's - but i don't use it because i can't afford the electric! I also have cold showers everyday because i can't afford hot water! Don't think you are alone! ;) In my case though i can get a subsidised hot meal at work, that might not be the case for you, but slow cookers and microwaves are great. Remember, debts build up so easily and quickly.

Now that is one money saving idea I will not be doing!

I only have mine luke warm but there is no way I could shower straight from the cold tap!
