what to do with leek, bacon and some creme fraiche?

Options
Hi everyone, I need some recipe advice please. I (for some bizarre reason) have a whole leek in my fridge. I have no idea why i bought it, must've seemed like a good idea at the time. Anyway, i'm really trying not to throw stuff out so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what i could do with it? I also have some bacon that needs using up, and some creme fraiche as well. I have a generally good store cupboard with all the usual stuff in it. Any ideas?

Sounds like a pasta dish to me
    or a quiche
or a bake of some sort, maybe with potatoes as well

How about slicing the leek and cooking it in a pan of simmering water to which you have added a teaspoon of butter. Drain. Chop the bacon into little bits and pan fry until just crispy. Peel and chop a couple of potatoes into 1" dice and boil gently until cooked.

Put the whole lot into a deep dish, add the creme fraiche and some seasoning (smoked paprika would be nice), and top with puff pastry or filo pastry. Bake until golden.

Pasta with leek & bacon sauce.....

Cut bacon into thin strips & slice leek, fry off bacon & add leek to soften.
    Cook pasta.
Add pasta to bacon & leek pan (gets all the tasty bits off the pan!) & add creme fraiche.
Stir well, season if required & serve.

I didn't realise having whole leeks in one's fridge was considered bizarre:confused:

Got a baguette? Chop the leek and bacon finely and fry till the bacon is crisp and the leek sweet.

Spread the cut baguette with creme fraiche, top with leek and bacon, sprinkle on cheese and grill.

Or make leek, bacon and potato soup. Proceed as above with the leek and bacon, add a large diced potato and about 8-10 fl oz of stock/water. Bring to the boil and simmer till all is soft. Blend and stir in creme fraiche to taste.

Id say pasta; gently fry the leak with some butter or oil and maybe a minced garlic clove if you like untill its soft while you grill the bacon, cut the bacon into strips and stir through the leaks.Season, take of the heat and mix in the creame fraiche, perhaps 75g of some parmasan or whatever cheese you have knocking round. Mix with cooked pasta.
Or my work used to do a very similar pasta bake like this?

I have six whole leeks in my fridge - am I a freak?

If you have or can get some turkey or chicken, then you can make a version of this: http://www.britishturkey.co.uk/recipes/recipes/recipe.191.shtml

I do it and use white sauce made with stock instead of milk, as the recipe as it is written is VERY liquid. But you could do it with creme fraiche and some milk, and even add gravy granules to thicken it up and make it more savoury, which is what I did the first time i made it cos otherwise it looks like soup!
