South Coast Trip - Help me plan!

Hi guys,
I want to take my girlfriend somewhere on the south coast for a quick get away next month. I was wondering if anyone can help give some recommendations for places, accommodation, travel, amenities.
Looking for somewhere with a nice beach, some cool walks and nice restaurants in the day/evening with some good pubs for the night. Happy to stay in cheap accommodation providing it's not a hostel.
Leaving early Saturday 8th August
Returning late Sunday 9th August
(could happily stay until early Monday 10th if 2 nights is affordable)
Accommodation: Bed and Breakfast (Something with a double room. Doesn't have to be fancy)
Travel: Train (Cheap!) from London
I had a look at Poole for which I could get train tickets at £13 each (there and back as 2 advance singles from thetrainline.com) with a 4* B&B for £25pp per night .
(I would link these but I can't as a new user)
That trip totals £73. I would love to see what other people can suggest. Obviously my Poole trip doesn't involve anything more special than visiting a beach so far!
Thanks,
Jon

No beach actually in Poole, the one at Sandbanks is good, as is Studland over the ferry. It's a naturist beach you should be aware though.
How about Bournemouth or Weymouth? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

What an extremely good point! Thanks
Lunch time was spent toying with the idea of visiting both the beach and the New Forest. Somewhere like Christchurch seems to be inbetween the two.0 -
Sorry but no beach at Christchurch either, the idea is a great one and you can get open top bus tours of the Forest.
Have a look at Southbourne and Boscombe for the beach, only a few minutes further on than ChristchurchIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

Yeah, I wasn't clear there. I just thought Christchurch seemed like a good middle point between sand and tree. Thanks for the further tips. Time to look for some cheap accommodation nearby and build myself up to mentioning 'tents' to the girlfriend.0 -
Christchurch is a good middle point. There is also a Premier Inn/Travelodge (forget which) right next to the StationIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Hi, I live in Poole. Sandbanks beach is actualy part of Poole. So there is a beach in poole. Poole has a lovely historic quay with plently of nice restruarants and pubs. A big shopping centre and high street. Has easy access to the new forest and the purbecks, poole has a lovely country park (upton country park), a great water park and is a great place for a holiday. :j0

Thanks very much, and to everyone else who has contributed so far!0 -
Bournemouth is very central. I've not stayed there but the Premier on Westover Road is supposed to be good and very near the beach and in town.
Mudeford and Highcliffe have a beach too, both are near Christchurch by car.
Poole has a quayside, and as the OP says, Sandbanks is a couple of miles away, and has a lovely beach too.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
We live in Bristol and quite often visit Bournemouth - the beach is brilliant very busy near the town/pier but quiter if you are prepared to walk along the front to Durley or Alum Chine - both of these have resturant or pub alongside the prom, beautiful parks/gardens, shopping centre, lots of restuarants - very cosmopolitan. We have stayed at the travelodge in the centre of Bournemouth, but there is also a premier travel inn in the centre.0
