Boot won't open - will car fail MOT

Thats because the fact that the boot will not open is not a failure in its own right

My boot wouldnt open either but managed to find the manual release but removing the small plastic circles from inside and just sliding the catch across with my finger, it meant the boot was always open, ideal just for the mot, then just slide it back across when you have passed the MOT to re lock it

My boot on my peugeot 206 wont shut, well it does after slamming it hardabout 10 times! Is that a fail?

What can I do to make sure Ive made the most checks I can (not being a mechanic of course ) general stuff, to try to have as good a chance of passing an mot a possible? I realise the engine and underneath works I cant help with but if cars running well, oil and water checked and not leaking, exhaust is fine,all lights working and brakes and tyres are good with right air and tread...anything else I can check? Many thanks

That's a fail. It has to catch and they wont slam it over and over.
Its probably the strike plate or catch out of alignment. Usually a very easy fix.

I had similar with my van MOT recently. 1st garage failed it as they couldn't open either front doors (it has special locks fitted). 2nd garage passed it first time as they understood there is an exemption for vehicles like mine (such as armored vans where the doors are welded shut). Sometimes its just down to the MOT tester and his ignorance/willingness to put you out./desire to make extra money.

Take it to the place that said they'd pass it.

Use the MOT test as an indication of what requires fixing for the retest. If it fails, you'll get an advisory slip telling you whats wrong, just get that fixed within a week and most garages will usually retest it for free (at the same garage as the first test, obviously).
Its not worth worrying about it passing first time, just take it for a retest.
