Thanks- that's a big relief - not being funny & definately happy to support hubbie but I've not got debts and all of his are from a company that I had nothing to do with or benefitted in any way from. So the thought of the OR inspecting what I buy with every penny my hard earned cash is a bit galling, dont suppose they would be that supportive of my "yarn" habit - I'm a knitter, and as hobbies go it's relatively cheap, but OR saying that wasnt allowed would drive me over the edge, knitting has kept me sane through bouts of depression and this business with hubbies debts.
The IP said that SOA in BR were much more lenient that under IVA & DMP, and you could allow for more stuff.
I've gone through some of the SOA's listed on this forum and getting an idea, but that list that people use isnt the same or looks anything like the one on the actual 6.28 form for BR.
Where are they getting that list/form from ? sorry if being thick :-pDMP Mutual Support Thread Member : 3180 -
This is the one we use
http://www.makesenseofcards.co.uk/soacalc.html
We use this as it is very comprehensive and makes it clearer. For the forms you just condense some things. There is also a heading for other essential payments which when you put something in there produces a drop down box for you to put other bits in. Some posters here have also printed off their SoA and added it to the forms as well.
When you are ready put up the SoA in a seperate thread and someone will check it for you.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

I have been discharged for a year now and I also do not find it any different from when I was bankrupt.
I opened a bank account with Abby National (who I have had a savings account with for a year) and they would only give me a basic account with no overdraft/ visa or cheque book. Literally a cash card. This is ok unless I want to do online shopping etc and then I have to ask someone else to get it for me. Abby arranged home insurance for me at the same time... I did not bother looking elsewhere as I didn't want too many credit checks on my file. After reading a few of these posts, it looks like I may have had trouble with other insurers.
I could not get a rented house from an agency, in fact even from some private landlords who run credit checks. My bankruptcy was an issue. I found this extremely stressful as I have a baby, just split up from my partner and needed somewhere asap. I had to stay living with my ex partner which put a huge strain on the relationship.
I eventually convinced a landlord to go through me direct to save on the agency fee on both our parts and he agreed as he knew my family. The house was not great but a lick of paint and much better.
I get nervous when I have to do anything which includes a credit check now so I just live without it. I wouldn't want a contract mobile. I was accepted with Talk talk for landline and broadband (I don't think they run credit checks though) and have stuck with the utility companies that were already with the house.
I have been offered a placement for work with a finance company and have an interview. I have experience but I think they will run a credit check and will have to see if this does not work out due to my bankruptcy.
I also know it will be difficult near to impossible for me to own a house in the future and if my short term tenancy ends on the house where I managed to rent for now ends, I will probably cry! Hopefully that will not happen and I will stay put for as long as I can.
I do not regret bankruptcy however because at least I am not in debt now and I know I was in a much more awful position before.0 -
not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here goes, my husband was discharged from his bankrupcy well over 12 months ago. however when he went bankrupt we were not married we lived together but he paid 'board' so my property was not effected. I remorgaged my house in August last yr as my old morgage had come to an end, however as i was nt married at that time it wasnt a problem, however now we are married we want to move and buy a bigger property but my morgage adviser has stated that this may be a problem due to my husbnads bankrupcy??? The old and new morgage will be and were in my sole name and the bankrupcy people told my husband that it is a personal thing and i would not be effected in any shape or form, can anyone tell me if what i am being adivsed is correct apparently the Abbey dont lend to anyone who has a connection (ie married to) a bankrupt person????? this is who i have my morgage with at the moment
Hope someone can help as i'm confused!!!0 -
I went BR in sept last year. Up till then my life was full of sleepless nights, the phone was always ringing and i was constantly getting threatening letters from my creditors.
after speaking with the national debt helpline (which being the first step to take, was the most difficult) i weighed up my options. i figured out that it was going to take hundreds of years to pay off my debt, and i was nowhere near being able to pay off the interest each month. I decided to go BR. It is always the 'nuclear' option but i haven't regretted it.
Preparing for court was pretty nerve wracking, i was more worried about forgetting to put some details on my petition and getting in trouble afterwards.
Went to court, paid my fees, then an hour later it was done. It was the biggest relief ever. Then every-time the phone rang i wasn't afraid to answer, knowing that if it was a creditor all i had to say was 'i've gone BR' give my case number and they wouldn't call back...ever...
I went through the OR interview with no problems, even though I had forgotten to put an old savings account on my petition (which must have looked pretty suspicious) the OR was completely understanding.
A short while later i received a scary letter from EGG saying there were aware of my BR but i still owed then money and there were going to take legal action, i spoke to the OR, she said that was very bad of EGG, i sent her a copy of the letter and she dealt with them. Never heard from them after that.
I was slightly concerned about my broadband, utilities, mobile contract, home phone line and that they may ask me to leave but nothing happened. As long as i stay with them it shouldn't be a problem. In fact i recently changed to british gas (whilst i was still BR) and they didn't mention it, just instantly opened a new account for me.
i was worried about my landlord, as it said something in my rental contract about BR. I spoke to the debt helpline, i read them the paragraph from the contract i was worried about. They said nothing to worry about. The OR said my financial situation was of no concern to my landlord as long as i paid my rent on time and they wouldn't be informing him.
Now, i have a savings account with the co-op and actually have savings in there! First time thats happened in 10 years! Feel great about it now, if it wasn't for places like this, the national debt helpline and the OR i don't know what i'd done.
Hope this helps.0 -
What a brilliant thread great to read so many stories of life after bankruptcy, hopefully I will be in a position to add mine 12 months from now!0

I felt so small and ashamed and was in tears and as i was leaving the room she told me to stop crying as other people would think she was a nasty piece of work!
Sorry but I honestly do not think someone in that position who treat you that way.0
