Car Insurance policyholder
Hi, my neighbour has recently lost her husband, he had a car which he was the policyholder of, but he also had his 2 kids on the policy as named drivers. The policy isnt due to run out until late October.
She wants to know if her kids can continue driving the car (legally) until the end of the policy or does she have to inform the insurers?
Any help greatly received as she asked me for advice and I wasnt too sure of the legalities.
TIA

She has to inform the Insurers.
Most Insurers will allow the policy (And normally any no claims bonus, providing she has held a full licence for the same amount of years as the no claims bonus) to be transferred into her name. This will solve the problem (Assuming she drives) and also means she gets her late husbands no claims bonus.
If they cannot transfer the Insurance or request it to be cancelled, they should allow some time for the car to be reinsured.0 -

No, it won't have.0 -
Best to inform them in any event and ensure all future correspondance is addressed to her.
Ask that they also flag her husband as deceased so that no marketing is received from the insurer and their other divisions, e.g. household insurance / life insurance depts.0
