Garage conversion

Does anyone have an idea about how much it costs to convert a garage? Assuming a fairly typical 8-9 ft by 16-18ft single garage size, one would probably need to:
1) remove garage door and replace with bricks and a largish window
2) insulate roof space and put in a ceiling
3) insulate and plaster walls
4) put in a couple of extra wall sockets
5) anything else I've forgotten?
you also need to insulate and bring the floor up as garages are lower.. pkus a radiator spur, lighting..
like i said ours is hopefully going to come in under £4k with local builder, but specialist firms could be £10k depending what you want, flooring, etc...
and check with the council if you need planning permission.. some areas have restrcitions on garage conversions.0 -

I converted my garage to a teenage bedroom/study, with a sink, plus a small utility room. It involved having a door knocked through, plumbing and heating (including a pump for the washing machine). It was done professionally by a specialist company, who did everything, including ensuring building regs, etc. were met.
It cost £10,000 and was money well spent. I bought a large shed for all the stuff I stored in the garage and got rid of the junk (such as old skis and filing cabinets). I also had a bike shelter built around the side of the house for storage.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Why are you planning to lose a significant sum from your savings to change the function of the garage space when this does not generate any extra income for you and you expect to have financial constraints going forward?0
