Npower - what shall I do??
I moved into my new home in March 2008 and the property had pre-pay meters with British Gas. I decided to change to Npower and it took them until July 2008 to change the meters. On numerous ocassions I tried to set up a DD which was not able to happen as they had not had the final readings from British Gas. We finally set up a DD and the 1st payment came out in November. Set up DD for £60 combined and now recieved a bill for the period Dec - June 2009 for £800. On 10th June they wrote to me saying my DD was going up to £134/month which is fair enough but now 10 days later they have sent me another letter stating that the DD is going to be £207/month. Does anyone think this is very high??
I live in a 2 bedroom house with my partner and son and we only use the gas for the heating and hot water (water is only on for half an hour a day to do washing up) and everything else is electric. We work from 8.30am until 6pm 5 days a week and therefore the electric is very limited during this time.
Your views on this would be very much appreciated.

was the £800 on top of the £420/480 you had already paid ?0

It seems that npower have been supplying you since July 2008 - so about a year - and you've paid about 7 x £60 = £420. Not sure what the £800 bill is - is that what you owe after the DD payments have been credited? If so, that means you've used about £1200 of energy in a year which sounds about right. That's about £100 a month but you've also got to repay the £800 so £207 sounds reasonable.
What you need to do is read your meters. Work out how many kwh you use in a day/week/month/year - that way you'll know how much you should be paying. I can never remember the averages (because we use much more than the average) but I think it's about 3000kwh a year for electricity and 15000kwh gas - I'll check and edit.0 -

Thank you for the response and advice. The £800 is after the DD payments have been credited. I have already started reading my meters daily and will be contacting them again later this week to start sorting this out.0
