*Working while on additional maternity leave*

Hi all, middle of this month my ordinary maternity leave is up and I'm going to be starting the unpaid additional maternity leave.

I've seen this job come up, it's only 6.5 hours a week, but the money is good and I can get out of the house for a bit.

I'm wondering if I'm allowed to do this as I'm still employed?

  • In theory, as soon as you go 'back to work' maternity leave ends.

This is mainly because the government aren't prepared to pay benefits if you are back at work earning.

So as the benefits are no longer paid, it should be ok, as you aren't diddling anyone out of money.

I did exactly the same as you, I took on part time pocket money roles, mystery shopping etc and then went back to work a few weeks before the end of my year off on maternity.

Thanks for replying and sharing your experience.

I'm glad this seems to be OK, because I am no where near ready to return to my old job yet, but this seems like a nice outlet temporarily (it's only a 6 month contract anyway).
