My prediction: - some nil payout mergers, perhaps, but no-one converting.

That's about all I've got to say on that.

Holding a minimum amount (which can be £1 in many cases) in a membership account still helps on occasion- e.g. a 6% paying regular saver could be opened this week (but only for existing members) with West Brom B/Soc

Tend to agree £100 probably safer bet with BS. Also now found that 6% reg saver with West Brom is branch only and called Birthday Bonus Accout. Another one for me.

Tehnically you are a member with just £1.00, but you don't get voting rights with less than £100, so you wouldn't get any windfall for less than that. Not that you will be getting any windfalls anyway in the current climate, no matter how much you have in your account.

You don't have to be an existing member - I opened one recently without being one.

We've kept 2 Nationwide accounts for YEARS, just in case..................! (Well you never know though I recognise that now the chances are so slim they're practically anorexic.)
