Streamline machine

Options
I've just got a streamline machine, previously my merchant account had a virtual terminal, I used to write down the card details, key them and shred them as soon as they had gone through OK. There were only abbreviated details showing on screen for the transaction after I had keyed it.

The streamline machine prints out the cardholders details in full, plus a copy for the customer.

Is there some sort of legal length of time I am expected to keep the cardholder's details, as quite honestly, I'd rather not have them once the money is in my account.

I am not aware that a copy is needed to retain. The card details would not be in full as its protected by confidentiality. The receipts should show xxxxx with the last four card digits with exp date and customers name on card.

However, in some circumstances. Buyers may do a chargeback and you may want to keep a copy for reference in case of such issues happen

When I print a copy off the machine, the first copy has the full details, only thing missing is the 3 digit security code, the second copy, which is the cardholder's copy, is as you describe.

The same here too. We were advised that once payment has cleared we should destroy our copy. If there are any queries or refunds to do we could always ask for details again. This way is much safer than holding on to the card details.

Of course. Otherwise, we need to have a system in place to prevent data fraud...etc. Its a hot topic these days where personal data should be destroyed properly. Otherwise, can get nasty follow up problems
