Perranporth by train or coach

Hi, i have been looking at Perran sands for next year. I just wondered if any one had been by public transport. National express will give me a price to Perranporth, i just wondered if they stopped at the park gates. Or if we went by train would i be better off going to Newquay or Truro? I would have thought Newquay but the Haven website says Truro. Would it then be a taxi ride?
Also has any one stayed in one of there supertents or yurts? I haven't seen any reviews on that sort of accomadation.
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at http://www.transportdirect.info/web2/
this will give you door to door info on transport for your trip and links to the bus companies for timetables. Have you looked at flying down, the airport is by newquay and they might have some better deals than the train if you want to speed up the travel. from where I live it takes 7 hrs to get there which is a whole day and on the train the fare is around £50 or more for the pleasure, whereas ryanair could offer a comparable fare (approx £10 when on sale) from stansted which takes an hour and even taking into consideration the cost of getting to stansted it works out more favourable.0 -
Here's the bus timetable for Newquay/Truro that goes through Perranporth http://www.westerngreyhound.com/route_pdf/587.pdf which gives you some idea of the public transport in Cornwall
The main London/ Penzance train line runs through Truro whereas you'd have to get off to go to Newquay at Par to get to Newquay (iirc).
If you don't mind hanging around for a bus then that would be cheaper, but if you want to catch a taxi so that it's quicker then I would travel to Newquay as it's easier to catch taxis from there & probably cheaper too.
If I were you then I would do as cardiffforthefacup said and see if you can fly to Newquay airport. The airport is a few miles out of town, but there are buses to Newquay http://www.newquaycornwallairport.com/index.cfm?articleid=40527
You can fly from a few places in the UK so it's worth looking out for sales http://www.newquaycornwallairport.com/index.cfm?articleid=40516
On the accommodation front there are a few places that hire out Supertents, Trevornick is one of them & quite a good site if you have children with you http://www.trevornick.co.uk/staying-at-trevornick/super-eurotents-in-cornwall.html
I have a few friends that have stayed in these abroad & say they're really handy.
Could be useful to compare the prices to some basic carvans too.

If I was going down that way I'd rather stay at Crantock Beach (Parkdean) although it's caravans only. It's easier to get to from Newquay as it's only 20 mins on the bus. Perranporth takes ages to get to from either Truro or Newquay as those buses go all around the houses on the way.0

Thanks for the replies. I think that flying down won't be any good as i live in Sheffield. I would have to get to Manchester to do so but i will bear it in mind. I think that the train will probably be the easiest/comfiest way down to travel. Both coach and train mean changing in Birmingham. Don't know whether it would be cheaper split ticketing but i would be getting a family railcard.
I'm interested in Perran sands as it's straight on to the beach, we will have already had one holiday abroad, so i'm just wanting a weeks relaxation, a cornish pasty and maybe a trip into Newquay and St Ives, the tents look like fun.0 -
from what irember it it a long walk down to sand as haven site is in top of the hill by the golf coursethisisme  not thisone or thatone:eek:0

My OH went to Perranporth for a week of golf and flew from M/Cr for £38 return (including £18 for his clubs) with BMI Baby (I think). Was so much cheaper and faster than the train.
I know you said you'd have to get to M/Cr but worth a thought...

If you want to be near a beach then Holywell Bay is really close (about a 2 min walk) http://www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk/cornwall-holidays/holywell-bay/holywell-bay-holiday-park.htm
The beach there is great for small kids as you come across a stream & some sand dunes with a flat sandy area first, then you have to walk around the corner of the dunes to find the beach & sea. My children refuse to walk around to the beach proper as they say paddling in the stream & sledging down the dunes is so much fun!
There's a pub nearby if you don't fancy cooking http://www.stpiransinn.co.uk/
The only down side to Holwell Bay is that there's no indoor pool
It's easier to get to Newquay from Crantock/Holywell Bay as well.

PS Trevornick (link in previous post) is up a very steep hill near Parkdean's Holywell Bay if you fancy the Eurotents not a caravan.0
