    I actually agree with Halloway
A lot of the complaints are unjust and more based on the OP assuming things. As far as I am aware it isnt a prerequisite of a flight for you to get extra seat room, a clear view of the TV or catering to your own requirements - well at least not without paying a premium which the OP doesnt mention

The op also turned down the chance to return home.

    1. it's their usp to offer the larger seat pitch in all seats and the right meal isnt asking much and the entertainment is also standard on long haul.

    2. we turned it down when it wasnt even an epidemic! we were only given 2 hours for the decision when swine flu was still a relatively new thing.

Sorry if I am being thick here, but did you ask why the hotel was closing?
At that point,it being such a big change, I think I would have been asking for assurances that I would get a hotel of the same standard-I would also be a realist and guess that was unlikely to happen.Couldn't you have figured that out? Saying that,I would be asking for some compensation (don't accept vouchers).

knowone was dying at the time we had been offered the chance to go home.

we were given 2 hours to make a decision, 2 days into our hard earned holiday- of course we didnt go home! they never offered another chance to leave the country.

Their website states we should get veggie/normal meals, 33" seat pitch and personal entertainment- it's what we paid for. Therefore what I expected.

i don't think I would ask for 10 days back, although 2 days plus the return flight would be what I'd like. It really was a nightmare and not relaxing at all.

26th April: The Guardian reported 80 deaths in Mexico and the figure was rising so people were actually dying when you got there.

Given the extenuating circumstances, you are unlikely to get much. There is probably something written in the small print about situations like this.

I think you can claim for loss of enjoyment - there is a case http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarvis_v_Swans_Tours_Ltd which has some similarities. I would be concentrating on the differences in the hotel ie you booked adult only, lost the 2 days and the flight didn't meet the specification of what you booked. Sent a LBA to Thomson 7 days is enough now you have made loads of complaints and then straight to court. Check if there is a price difference between where you stayed and where you were sent and base some figures on that.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
