Unfortunately paying by bank transfer is wonderful for sellers as it costs nothing and can be quick, but not so good for a buyer who has no protection if the seller does a runner.

Firstly, how do you know he got the money the same day? Has he acknowledged it as if so that is encouring as scammers very often go quiet once they have received payment. If you know it was received purely because it was same bank to same bank, then not so good as I would have expected the item to have been posted out quite promptly.

Personally I would get the sellers contact details and give him a friendly call, just ask him when item was posted so you can watch for the post. You can get more of a feeling about someone if you can actually talk to them and you might be reassured.

Bank transfers normally take 3-4 days, unless they have the same bank as you but even then it can take a couple of days.

Well, looking at the ebay payment page it seems that paying by bank transfer *may* be covered under the ebay protection scheme. Well, it doesn't say it isn't....

    All it says is:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/payment.html#bankdeposit

    Bank Deposit
Buyers deposit payment directly into the seller's bank account either online or at most banks

    Not recommended.

    Risks:
Payment is difficult to recover or cancel.
    Involves sharing personal account information

So, if item does not arrive go through the dispute process:

Fill in the form here, with the seller's id and item number: http://cgi1.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?UserInformationRequest

What shipping method was your seller using? Just because he said it should be there by Friday doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't sent the item. It could be lost/delayed in the post.

    erm, ask the seller

what's his feedback like?, if it's 0 or -92834792387 then you have a slight right to be worried

if it's lots and lots of positive, then calm down, and ask a question

also, how was it posted?, ask them, really, something of that value should be special, but i'm sure an intelligent seller would have at least put a tracking number on it.

so, before jumping on a public forum, use communication with the seller :-)

  • Thanks for all your help, But I have contacted the seller 2 days ago no answer? Now I am talking like in a few weeks max I will file a dispute give him the benefit of the doubt.
But he's not answering my emails, The latest he quoted the item would be here was Friday the post has just been and nothing?
I know I may be over reacting but 85 quid is a helluva lot of money for me to lose.
I thought he looked trustworthy 11+ positive feedback been a member for 3 years, etc etc etc

But now I'm not so sure.

Has he got anything else for sale? If not, it's possible that he's gone away, a lot of people with kids are going off at the moment for Easter.

I'd give it 'til Tuesday or Wednesday before panicking. I bought something from a seller with great feedback, in November. 2 weeks later, nothing, so mailed him, said he'd definitely post it the day after, this went on and on, finally got it 4 weeks later. To be fair, he left me good f/b and apologised in the f/b for the delay.

I know he said he'd sent it, but some people are just disorganised, lol, and he might have meant 'I'm going to send it'!
