Yes they can. It can take up to 2 hours to reflect in your available balance at A&L. It won't be shown in your balance until Monday/Tuesday0

Faster payments works 24/7 however there are variances between banks. HSBC to RBS works ok, but Alliance and Leicester to HSBC doesn't. Down to different banks implementing faster payments in different ways.0

Thanks for the replies. It too a little bit longer than 2 hours but it has shown in the A&L account ok. Just get a bit worried when its quite a bit of money.0

The official standard is "up to four hours" to credit the receiving account, but this is really only to allow for exceptionally heavy load on the system. APACS do not reference this on their website, and First Direct is actually the only bank that does. Most users should expect a near instantaneous transfer. What would William Shatner do?0

Agree completely, I have never waited longer than a few page refreshes on my online banking for Faster Payment to show. Bank of Scotland via Online to Lloyds TSB goes through instantly, same as Lloyds TSB via PhoneBank to Bank of Scotland.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

A while back when I sent money to my A&L account using faster payments, I noticed that I couldn't just refresh the page to make the money appear - I was refreshing and refreshing and nothing changed.
But as soon as I logged out of internet banking and back in again, lo and behold, there the payment was.
It's possible the payment was immediate, but because of A&L's not so superior online banking, it just wasn't showing. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0
