I have just moved into my new rented house,was told by the agent that the combi boiler sometimes switches itself off and i have to reset it.So far it has swithched off 5 times in 24 hours.Am i in rights to insist that this is made right immediately.

Have you been given a gas safety certificate? If not, insist on one. If so, I'd still insist on the boiler being checked as it is clearly faulty.0

I've got a combi boiler and it has never switched itself off! Is there anything partially blocking the flue?0

a faulty boiler is dangerous, and 5 times in 24 hours is stupid, if it was just every now and again it would probally be liveable.
but id demand it be fixed asap!0 -
Keep good written records when reporting repairs.
Have a look at the Shelter website which gives advice on how to get landlords to undertake repairs which offers guidance on how to keep good records of requests.0 -
Your LL is legally obliged, under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, to ensure that all gas appliances/ flues in a tenanted property , are maintained in good order & that they are subject to annual safety checks.
As G-M has indicated, LLs are also required to keep a record of those safety checks and issue a safety cert to their tenants. Even if you *have* been shown a current gas safety certificate a boiler that does as you describe clearly needs attention.
Agree with Jowo that you need to deal with this via letter, keeping a copy safely with your tenancy agreement. Tell the LA that you want it checking as a matter of urgency, within 48 hours at the most.

Come back here if you get no decent response. There is more you can do in terms of enforcing repairs, but lets see where a polite request gets you.0

Don't deal with repairs issues via email. Many tenant requests will be sorted out early on in a tenancy but when resolve proves more difficult it is vital to have a decent "paper trail", to adequately prove that repairs issues were not dealt with in "reasonable" time.
Asking a LL /LA to sort out a boiler that may be faulty is not about "demanding or threatening" anything - you *can* be assertive without being either of those things.
However, the fact that the LA told you about the issue with the boiler suggests that he thinks that that is sufficient, and that no further action will be freely offered by him.
