im due a bonus of £150 one off pymnt at the end of this month! its taxable. Thing is i went BR 2 weeks ago, not on nil tax yet, but i have informed them im getting the payment.

The thing is I need that £150 minus tax for front disk and pads for my car ( metal on metal at the moment - seriously dangerous!) I have no IPA/IPO as my surplus is £30 a month! I do have £25 for car maintance in my out goings but obviously as it was only 2 weeks ago ive not saved any money!

so i dont know what to do:confused: seriously in the $h!^ i dont know whether to get the brakes done and send them the receipt!

wish i had'nt told them, but sods law i would of been caught out, and i didnt want to risk a BRO for £150!

You can make a case for keeping the money - have you already been told your car is exempt??

I seriously doubt they would notice £150 or £170 additional payment over one month due to many things like it could be overtime. However you have to do what your conscience allows as you did sign to say you would report changes to income. As it is such a small amount I do hope you can keep it. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

its a car my mum bought for my sister when she passed her test, but since mine was repossessed in march ive been using it everyday for work - 50miles a day, i just taxed it and will be paying for MOT in August and i pay for my insurance too, the OR is fully aware of this - as i need it for work, and has allowed allowances for it, its 10 years old and worth about £1300 so does need bits doing to it.
ive asked my mum and shes said she cant afford to do the brakes atm and to just to leave it on the drive! which then led it to a huge weekend long row about me 'doing all these miles' and i am going to have pay and the 'move out then' etc etc .............

As the OR knows you have the use of a car, I would definitely make a case for it - they have allowed it on your SOA so must be aware that there will be maintenance costs. Get a quote from a local garage and use this to back up your case - I would imagine they'll have no problem with it and you'll have the reassurance of knowing you've told them, etc.

I spoke to the OR today regarding my one off TAXABLE £150 bonus and my car brakes situation.

She immediately said i couldn't keep it, she told me to 'get a lift' until i had saved some money up as they had allowed £25 a month for the car ( i only went BR 3 weeks ago so ive not really had chance to save up the money  ). I not usually an awkward person but its going to be quite difficult to get a 'lift' for a 50 mile round trip a day in the remote area i live!
    :mad::mad:
Her next suggestion was to get my mum to pay as she owns the car, i explained that she could'nt afford it and this had led to huge arguments with my mum, as why should she 'be expected to pay for repairs to a car that was only originally going to be used for 20 miles a week not 350 plus!' (my mums words)

she then said that i shouldn't use the car, which led back to square 1, as i couldnt get to work. so stale mate. I said if i had the work done i would send in the receipt as proof too!

So now should I (a) keep on driving it - but slow cause the brakes are bad, (b) not go to work (c) take the money and see if i can get a one way ticket outta here
    :rotfl:

Actually I feel quite miserable, i dont want to spent the money on a holiday or clothes, drinking, smoking, gambling, drugs, loose women or something frivolous .

ohhhhhh i dont know what to do :(

p.s how much will be left out of the £150 after tax - currently i get £897 net :o

and if i do have to give the £150 up how do i pay it to them??

anyway when my creditos get £2 each from the £150 i'll probably be jobless or in a ditch!

Blimey, that's seriously harsh  Did you speak to the OR or to the OR's assistant? The reason I ask is that generally you don't speak to the OR but someone who reports to the OR.

It might be worth going over her head so to speak - you cannot get to work without the car, the car is not in a roadworthy condition and this money would enable you to make it so. BUMP so others can give their opinion...
