mix up with virgin and sky

If she had TV from Virgin Media then she wouldn't have been on the ADSL broadband it would have been cable. In which case you wouldn't be able to get a MAC code as they are not used.
She would have had to get her BT line activated again if it wasn't already and then get Sky to set up broadband on the line from scratch.
The OP has said that she had been disconnected, and she transferred to sky where she accepted their internet package. She can't get the SKY internet on VM using a CM or a variation of as you rightly point out. I caught that point incidentally
However, VM do provide an ADSL product, where they do not have cable provision. So she could conceivably be using a VM connection with ADSL provision, the MAC would have been given as authorisation to disconnect the line FROM VM to BT. The point you seem to miss is that VM DO provide ADSL, yes they're famous for their CM's but they also do ADSL too.
However, you may have a point that I considered, but dismissed due to time constraints, that's she was given a MAC via SKY, but when provided to VM they couldn't do anything with it, as quite rightly she was provisioned for Cable and not ADSL. The friend being unaware of this subtle difference wouldn't have thought she would need an ADSL modem etc.
The question is, why didn't they disconnect the line. Once we get an answer to that, we're going to know whether she had ADSL or a CM I imagine.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

No need to assume anything, she told us afterall:2 years ago, she called to stop her whole package with virgin media. This included tv, phone and broadband. They then switched the whole package to sky.
Seems pretty clear to me. Of course from that we can deduce that the TV came down the cable, doesn't mean she wasn't provisioned for ADSL as NTL\VM provide ADSL: http://www.virgin.net/allyours/broadband/index.shtml as you will see they call it 'National ADSL' or they did, but it's essentially ADSL for where the 'cable' ends, the 'national adsl' connections continue.

Has she not been paying Sky for broadband if she switched her whole package? If she has been paying for internet and using the internet, then surely she is paying Sky for a service they are not providing, in which case she could claim her money back from Sky and give it to VM if they ask for it?0

Well she would be better advised to post the above 'query' on www.nthellworld.co.uk which directs the visitor to here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/56/ if you goto nthellworld.co.uk and click on one of the discussino topics on the right side, you'll see that it directs you. So anyway, post over there what you did over here and they will in all likelihood get involved on your friends behalf. It's attended too by lots of Virgin Media Volunteers who maybe able to assist, even though they are under NO obligation to do so, they're purely volunteers. The company possibly doesn't even know they post over there, however, they know how bad NTL\VirginMedia are and as such volunteer their services to sorting everyone out. They may get involved and know someone within the company who can sort it.
VM most definitely do know of the above forum, and that their own employees post on there. There is a good reason why nthellworld no longer exists in its original format - the site owner was paid off by ntl.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Sky internet, which I think is actually Carphone Warehouse under another guise AIUI is part of the SKY package. Not sure if it appears under a seperate charge on the bill, I suppose we could ask those in the Broadband forum, see what they say. But it's included in the price of having SKY services.

Some of them chose to sign a form and make it known that they now go on there, however, some still remain anonymous - that's my understanding after following discussions on the site. There is a good reason why nthellworld no longer exists in its original format - the site owner was paid off by ntl.
Yes there is, but it's not the one that benefits everyone that you're about to put forward. ntlworld.COM was SOLD privately after the then owner 'Frank' I think he was known as was offered a never disclosed sum of money, he was also supposedly to remain the 'administrator' as well as having a seat on the sites 'board'. So he signed the site over and duely reported that NTL would now be involved in the site. He thought NOTHING of the fact that there was even some senior management over there signing in anonymously in order to assist employees through what passed as Ntl's system.
'Frank' told Ntl that the membership information wasn't for sale, but unfortunately there was some question as to whether that information had disseminated to Ntl so they decided that instead of honouring the 'seat on the board' part of the deal, Frank would instead take his money and go elsewhere. Which was fortuitous as Frank was about to move in with his girlfriend IIRC and she was in Australia.
Ntl installed a 'management team' into ntlworld.com who were on a short term contract to assist where possible but the site was due to close in around 6 months later. However, on the site there had been some discussions about the creation of another site ntlworld.co.uk, well two infact but the one entitled ntlworld.co.uk became the *official* NTL\VirginMedia as it is now liaison site.
It is and always has been staffed by volunteers, but the relationships they created out of ntlworld.COM remain, not least because somehow the membership list was ported over to the other site and the original LOST! Noone ever found out how this happened, but there was a lot of relieved people none the less.
So ntlworld.co.uk was born out of that, from that they recognised the existence of 'Cable' which meant they formed cableforum.co.uk which nthellworld.co.uk directs too.
Yes it's staffed by volunteers, but I think they have to seek some kind of permission to post there from their jobs, if they decide to out themselves. However, there remain a few people of consequence AIUI who only post privately, whilst assisting in their capacity from within VM. Though they're usually the people you wouldn't get on the phone being the 1st level tech support who keep the system running, so infact the very people most people want to talk toobut they're protected by the various layers of 'help' offered within the company.
So there you go, you now know almost as much as me about how nthellworld.co.uk rose out of the ashes from ntlworld.COM.

thanks for all the replies.
She says she has checked her sjy bills and it just states that it is a package. so she had no idea that it wasnt being supplied.
at this point she feels it is best to tell ntl about this as she is worried in case they do come back later. However she is away for the week due to work so will call up next week.
I will keep you updated
thanks very much again0 -

Sky's bills don't just have 'package' on them.
It lists your TV service (the package you have, so for eg, entertainment pack and sky sports)
Then it lists your phone package and BB package.
She should be able to see all that on her bill.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
sorry this is what I have been told.
