New electric meter, who pays for the 0.5units from testing?

Had a new electric meter fitted recently.
During commissioning, it was noted that there was already a reading of 0.5kWh on it.

The fitter pointed out this was normal, from when it was 'tested' & that I shouldn't worry.

The obvious question this raises though is that if they do this for every new meter that is fitted then they are potentially charging everyone for power they did not use.

Yes, you could argue that I have a shiny new meter, but that is what standing charges used to cover.

I would query this, but on it's own, it's not worth the cost of a phone call or a stamp.

When your first bill comes in make sure it starts on the reading as it was when it was installed.

and when the old meter was taken out and reads 45678.8 (for arguments sake) and you get billed for 45678 are you going to ask how you pay for the .8 kWh?

This is clearly an outrage and should be taken up at the highest level, the OP could be 6 pence out of pocket.

However as he will get a new meter every 10 years or so it will all add up!

In a similar vein, my postman comes very early each morning and inevitably triggers several security lights. I estimate that over a year this wastes several pence worth of electricity. Do you feel I have a claim against Royal Mail?

Wow thousands of meters being installed, and everybody being charged 6p - the companies really are robbing us blind, aren't they?

Get a grip, and find something worth complaining about.
