Not money saving but really need help

Hi

This isnt a money saving one but I really need help with something. Ive just been told about something someone closely associated to us did a few years ago and the police were involved. Apparently it was in the local paper. I have done searches under the name and location but they are coming up with millions of results.

Anyone got any tips on how I can refine this search. I really need to establish if this is just hearsay and what the outcome was/

Sorry to be a bit vague too but its not somethign I would want to write about in detail without knowing 100% that it happened.

thanks

Does your local paper have a web-site? If so, you could try searching google and specify the paper's web-site -

Thank you tried it but no luck. Its strange because the person that told me said it was definitely in the paper at the time. How long do articles stay on for do you know? As I was told it between 3-5 years ago. Thanks again

Depends on the local paper and some may not have even digitally archived any at all. If it's not "digitized" in any way then only option is the physical paper archive that the local paper is bound to have.

go to the local library and look at back issues...I did the same looking at personal past (childhood) events..it was easy enough - though time consuming as I knew no details except a name and a rough year

I do not expect you to reply, only to consider the following quesions.

If you aren't at risk from them why put yourself through the process ?

Have you already decided on what you will do if you discover its true ?

What was the motive of the person who told you this ?

As DatabaseError said already, your local library will probably have all the local newspapers in its archive.
