He'd obviously got a bit of a hangover (maybe one of the lucky ones that got their Virgin wine??? )
It's great to be passionate about what you do. Most people spend their whole working lives doing something they either hate or only feel luke-warm about, not always through choice, sometimes through circumstance or necessity - and as someone who also loves their work (though very different to Martin's ) I know how priveleged we are.
You can't please all of the people all of the time! But I wouldn't let the MSGF hear you describe yourself as a 'cold shower'I :heart2: Boots0 -
you should have said you can buy headache tablets cheaper at x x and x but my top moneysaving tip is turning your radio down as it's free0

I'd like to think the comment about not shouting was made in jest. If not, I think a suitable punishment for the person responsible would be being unsubscribed from all MSE advice for a month for being petty !0

Well martin maybe the victims of your show find it frustrating that you shout at them enthusiasticaly when 'advising them'
just a thought...Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
I think it's a great style and the rapport between you and Jeremy seems genuine; my feeling is it's the listeners problem not yours! If the producers want you to slow down and speak in hushed tones they need to give you longer and more often ( oh sorry I feel an actress and the bishop joke coming on!)
And spendless I think that's BRILL!!0 -

He did actually say something on Radio2 yesterday after that comment about headache tablets and to check the active ingredient and then buy the cheaper versions !! though the latter option sounds like even better advice!!!:)
I love the way Martin is passionate about what he does. As others have said, it's hard these days to find a job that you LOVE doing. Keep up the good work Martin!0 -
Martin you can shout on my radio anytime you like.....it's one of the things we love about you, your enthusiasm is infectious.0

You need to think in the mind of the person that sent the email.
They person who wrote it must have thought "ahh that money saving person is coming on, what can I email about my finanancial questions.....err no......I know I will email asking him no to talk so loudly....yes that's it.....right off to the computer I go".
The other 99.9999999% of the people that email in would be thinking, ahh I have a relavent question for him as he may be able to help.
I wouldn't get to worried by the nutter who emailed in the shouting comment.0 -
LOL when I've seen Martin on TV (in interviews rather than his own show), his "tornado of information" (blog quote) and the way he says things so quickly can make things very hard to follow - IMO it's not a good look, but from what he's written in the blog, he obviously feels it's the way to go.0

I heard just the first 15 minutes or so of the broadcast (I had to leave the house) but was amazed that Jeremy Vine "threw" you with the totally irrelevant "you're too loud" email right at the start. It seemed to me (and this is the first time I've heard you on the radio) that JV was constantly trying to belittle your advice and refuse to let you continue with your clear explanation (at one point you did say "Well, I hadn't planned to explain it in that order but - if you insist - I'll start with the last part first" or words to that effect). It was also appalling that he constantly interrupted your advice to a student for a cheap holiday by comments like "But why should they have to fly from Stansted?". The answer, for heaven's sake, is that they asked for a CHEAP holiday, not one flying Concorde and staying at the Ritz with a chauffeur driven Rolls to the local airport, all for under a fiver!!!!! It definitely put me off Mr Vine, and reminded me of an occasion when a local radio person rang me to discuss a forthcoming interview about a book of local interest I am writing and also asked me if I still did a conducted walking tour of the area I was writing about. I explained that the walking tours had long since been cancelled. When the actual interview happened the next day, the first question was "How are the walking tours going?" Aaarghh!!!
Two final items: Congratulations on the MSG - she is a most beautiful lady and I hope all goes well for you both (Does she have a much older sister?) AND thanks so very much for this wonderful site which is really helping me to wipe out my debt (currently all at 0% for 8 months whilst I save the repayments in a 4.5% earning account) and is turning me into a bargain-hunting freak! Thanks, Martin. Initial Debt = £9,700 (at 15.9%)
Net Debt at April 4 = [£9,680 (0%) less £2,905 (4.5%)] = £6,775
:jDebt-free Date = 25 December 2006:j
£2.00 Coin Savers Club = £30 (of which £20 banked)0
