I've looked on the Comet Clearance website and I always wondered why the prices were so high, I've often seen things going for ripoff prices and never thought that it was much of a 'clearance' auction.

I didn't realise they did this with the auctions, that would explain why the prices are so high.

I don't really think that bid sniping is bad for sellers. For example, I am convinced someone sniped one of my auctions a few weeks back. The item was going for around £80 and it looked as if there would be no-more bids. However the snipe came with a few seconds to go and pushed the price up by 50p I think.

So my item sold for a little bit more. As far as I'm concered a snipe is an extra bid on my auction where there would have been no further bids at all.

I don't agree with shill bidding though, it's blatant dishonesty by the seller.

If anyone has a sniper on their auction they don't want then please send them along to me, I love them!

I listed a very unusual item just before Christmas. I had the most ever watchers (for me!) at 14 and yet with an hour left to go I still had the original bidder in who had put in a bid at starting price on the day the item was listed.

In the last 15 minutes the auction went crazy..each time i refreshed there were more bids in. It was more exciting than anything on the box over Christmas :D

Went for more than I had anticipated and I got the most glowing feedback for it as it arrived with the buyer within 24 hours of the auction ending.

Shill bidders though are the pits. I was watching one the other day, it was so obvious as I was outbid by a single increment every time i placed a bid (both he and i were bidding manually). I waited until a few minutes before auction ended and stopped bidding. The shill bidder won that auction and sveral others where it looks like people were playing him along. Within minutes I got an e mail from him offering me the item at a higher price than I had actually bid. This wasnt a proper second chance e mail, just a 'try it on' in a personal e mail. I reported him to ebay and assume others did too as he was NARU shortly afterwards.
