  • Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I'm hoping some of you may have some advice....

My debt is high and I am currently on a DMP with payplan and am at last sorting my life out!

My ex partner owes me a large amount of money from when I (stupidly) bailed him out to a total of over 9k. This would obviously help me out greatly with my debts.

We have had an informal arrangement that he would pay me money each month, which I take off his total debt (and use as extra payments to my creditors), unfortunately this is starting to come irregular!

All of the debt is in my name, so really I don't have a leg to stand on with getting the money back I don't think, but wondered if anyone had any experience of this and managed to get money back?????

My ex has and still does say he will pay me back no matter how long it takes, but as he has only given me £40 today, it will take about 20 years to get it all back and I really don't want to be in contact that long!!!!

    Anyone got any advice????

Thanks as always, its great that there is somewhere like this where we can vent some anger and get some good support and help!
Reading your posts - he doesn't have to be great with money because he borrows off girl friends and mates and doesn't pay them back. Have you any very large male relatives? If you have, I'd suggest you ask them to pay him a call and have a serious conversation with him, pointing out the error of his ways and what will happen if he doesn't keep to the arrangement he made with you. As you lent him 9k to be paid back at £50 a month, I'd suggest that whilst they are talking to him they get his agreement in writing to a new payment plan which will give you the info you need to take him to the small claims court if he breaks it as there's every chance that he will - his word isn't exactly his bond is it.
I'm sorry to sound harsh, but you would never find anyone to lend you 9k interest free to be paid back at £50 a month . He's got a new GF and a new car and now he's taking you for a ride by the look of things. If I were in your shoes I'd be sending two blokes and a large alsation to visit him.

I think there are prob. quite a few of us on here who are in the same position, we live and learn.......the one good thing is that you know he has money coming in, setting up a standing order is the best thing....easy to spend cash in your pocket than cancell a standing order......im sure he can easily afford more than £50 a month.....unfortunatly me ex has paid nothing not a penny off his debts (that are in my name) and is now in debt to the csa (not a penny of him there either).......i wish you good luck and hope u get as much money back as you can
