Has anyone used this pregramme to fix screen freeze?
http://www.tune-your-pc.com/regcure/computer-freeze.php?seed=laptop-keeps-freezing&bid_keyword=laptop%20keeps%20freezing&gclid=CJzvx6XXvJsCFYUA4wod7Et7DQ

I really need to fix the freezing as its driving me nuts, but is this the best way to do it? I know nothing about how computers work, so I need a simple programme that will fix it for me. Or if anyone has any suggestions for other programmes or downloads, i would appreciate it.

Here's a freeware equivalent: http://www.ccleaner.com/ watch the video first please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzBMzVd0H90 , and do NOT install the yahoo toolbar when it prompts you. Also ensure you backup any of your own documents, then if you're using any cookies to auto login various websites, then install www.lastpass.com create an account and have it scan your computer and save all those details to a profile. Then if you happen to use My Recent Documents list, be aware that ccleaner calls thee points MRUs or Most Recently Used, there is a checkbox to uncheck if you wish to retain that data. Other than that, this program will scan and request you backup your registry, like regcure you then get to delete loads of temporary internet files. There's a good chance it will do the same thing has regcure.

Also, what's it doing when it's freezing? What model of laptop is it? What operating system?

If you goto Start\Run type 'eventvwr' without the quotes, and then click System and order by Date, at the time when you get the freezes, what errors occur? If you double click the errors in turn, you'll be prompted about sharing information with Microsoft, it's ok to do this as it needs those data dumps to determine what's wrong, you should hopefully get a list of possible fixes based upon the data you passed to microsoft. If you would wish to write those event id's into this forum someone maybe able to assist.

    HTH
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Avoid like the plague - there's no such thing as a 'quick fix' for problems with so vague a description.

Can you describe your symptoms in any further detail?

Thanks ABH, always good to know there is a free programme rather than pay for one. I'll give your suggestions a go. Last night I defragmented, even though I have it set up on auto once a week, I have a feeling its not been doing it as when I did it, it took 2 hours to defrag. I'll see first if there is any improvement, if not I'll go with your advice.
Tanglefoot, when i say it freezes, I mean that if I am on any internet page ( say this one), all of a sudden the cursor & all of the keys will not work. I cant scroll a page down, or even close the page. It will stay like this for a few minutes then it clears itself, & goes on to perform all I've instructed it to do, ie, if I've tried to scroll down twice then tried to close the page whilst its frozen, then when it is working again, the page will scroll twice, then close. This could happen a couple of times every hour, or some day,s it doesn't happen at all.
can you tell me why to avoid RegCure. i have to say, I dont really want to use this type of programme, but it would help If i knew why to avoid it.

REGCURE etc will remove 'dead' registries. However, the vast majority of regsitry 'curing' programs can and do sometimes delete things they shouldnt which could make the computer worse or even completely unusable

CCLEANER is the safest one I know of but I highly doubt it will make ANY difference to your problem

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW') ~ scans for nasties (Which is what im guessing you have)
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
    UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION') ~ shows us whats running
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

I suggest you read this. Defragmentation is a waste of time at best.

The phrase "?seed=" in the URL looks suspicious in itself; last time I saw it was on a web site that took your search terms and used them to generate a page that purported to have the ideal solution.

The 'solution' proffered was something called RegCure.
