Best mobile broadband for students

Hi
My daughter is (hopefully) off to Uni in September and I would like to get her mobile broadband. Are there any good deals out there at the moment. I don't really mind whether it's over a year or 18 months.
I have heard of one that comes with a free laptop, but have always been taught "there's no such thing as a free meal" so should I be wary of "deals" such as this?
I need a cheap(ish), reliable network.
Any ideas out there?
Ta.

There was an offer through quidco.com whereby you signed up for o2 broadband and received it through their wireless dongle, they would refund you around £70 which meant the broadband for the period of the contract cost something like £1.22
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
You can get a prepaid 3gb kit for £39.99 now. No contracts, no giving credit card or bank account details. It will last until the 3gb is used up, or 90 days, which ever is sooner. If it works, you can get a 12gb kit for around £97 or 24gb for £119.
It is ok for browsing and emails but not so good for watching films and playing games. It is slow at peak times. Some people say it is seless, others think it is great.
Free laptops sound great, but there is usually a long term, expensive contract as the catch, and if the service isn't good, you are stuck with it.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

The service will depend on the coverage and how many people use the cell . Before you buy speak to people there find what they use for a mobile . I have a 3 dongel ,at home its rubbish , a mile up the road great , but i only use it as a back up0

You can get a dongle for less than a fiver, unlock it and put any sim you like in it.
Here's how

Thanks for your replies. The uni does offer broadband but it doesn't apply to all the accommodation - only the more expensive halls (which she has not applied for).YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
