Nice deal but 1 terrabyte over usb would take a long time, better drives would have esata and ethernet

Eek. I didn't know you couldn't use tiny url

In addition (to the above post), USB is easily going to be faster than Ethernet.
    2 reasons:

    1. Most people don't have gigabit Ethernet cards in their PCs. And they certainly can't afford a gigabit NAS.

    2. USB 2.0 is 480Mbps duplex. Standard network cards are 100Mbps and not all of them support duplexing.

In any case, cheapest eSATA drive I can find is £90. This is £54.99 delivered.

So can we compare apples with apples please?

There was a esata drive with 500gig for 35 the other day but this is a bargain also I agree and I forgot usb was quite that fast, does it achieve 480 in practise so easily?

Just for the drive alone, this is a good price and I think it would be possible to take the drive out and put it inside a machine, its probably sata

4.5 hours, time taken to transfer the total drive capacity over usb by my rough calc, which would be alot faster then I thought tbh

I have a 1tb usb drive and find it is more than fast enough for my needs. I have video, music and photos stored on it and am able to watch video straight from it without having to move it to my internal HDD. Huge storage capacity and an interface most are familiar with, I'll have one please!

Mind you, now having read through the other post and the issues with this drive, will give it a miss, although my point about that amount of storage in a USB format still stands for me.

USB can reach speeds of 480 mb/s - but two things to beware of:
Firstly - USB is more processor intensive than using Ethernet
Secondly - USB devices use a shared bandwidth - the more devices you have linked to your computer vai USB - the more the performance over the bus will degrade.

Saying that - it should be more than fast enough for most people's needs.

eSata is one of the better ways to go if you are really worried about performance - though you pay more for the performance gain.
