Single glazed windows

Hi all,

Going to be buying my first house very shortly, the kitchen is very small and I want to brick up the existing door to create a longer worktop and replace with a double window to replace the upper part of the door and existing window.

The second job is to convert the garage into a room, again requires a window. Challenge is that finance is very tight and cannot afford to replace all the windows in the house with double glazed units, can anyone recommend where I can get single glazed units?

You can't just slap in any old single glazed window. Talk to the local Council Building Control Officer and Google the Glass and Glazing Federation/ FENSA (Fenestration Self Assessment) - windows have to comply with Building Regs and there are specific thermal requirements, which apply to all windows/glazed doors installed after April 2002.

Unless I intended to stay for a very long time I wouldn't convert a garage into a room but that may not be the view of others.
