Nooooo not the horrid kind that require medication thanks
I have my wormery! Instead of a composter it's kind of a modified bin with various different bits like a tap and seperators and of course WORMS!
I checked on them this morning and the little !!!!!!s were trying to escape out of the bin so they got a stern talking too and where firmly shaken back in the bottom of the bin where their food and mulch is - cheeky little escape artists!

Sounds great, I am thinking of getting one as well.0

My Dad has had a wormery for several years - he talks to his, too! Now he's started breeding mealworms to feed the semi-tame blackbirds that wait on the windowsill every day."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

apparently you need to leave the lid off for a while when setting up or so my friend at work told me. It encourages the worms to dig down away from the sunlight. This might help you.
I think it was for a couple of hours.0 -

Yeah i did yesterday and they all did what good little worms should but overnight they have obviously been discussing the matter amongst themselvesI'll take the lid off again tonight and see if they see sense and retreat
The other half has been very specific about the type of worms I should get too... so we have a type of worm that can be used for fishing as well as composting... that way he won't have to pay for worms for fishing this summer he reacons :rolleyes:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I got worms in the middle of last week. Same sort of thing happened me, only I had the wormery in the kitchen, set it all up, left the lid off for a while. Then to my horror, they were all over the floor in the morning. I had fun picking them all up before going out to work - I almost missed my lift!
But everything was ok by the time I got back from work.
I'm worried that I may have put in too much food to begin with, but we'll give them a bit of time!Work to travel, don't travel to work!0 -

If they keep trying to escape it is sadly because they are trying to tell you there is a problem with the wormery
Too wet/dry/acidic whatever.... I usually tip in bran and dry stuff - putting a woven mat on top to keep in the moisture and give them some darkness to enjoy.
The stuff that comes out the bottom "Worm liquuuurrr" to quote my dh is very good for feeding plants <G>0 -
well if they carry on trying to escape I'll install carpets and other furniture for them
But at the moment they've not been in for 24 hours yet so I guess they're still adjusting
