but you would need to ensure you made at least 76% of your old wage for no more hours to make it worth while?

And there's the tricky bit, depending on what you are after. If one wishes to just work less then agency work might fill the bill, but you can't guarantee you'll get any work, nor the rate at which you're paid.

If you've got a well-paid skill, you might stand a better chance of earning more as a contractor.

    It's all a gamble really.

It'd be pretty sweet if you don't have any debts or kids. You could spend a year travelling and come back to your old job. Ditto if you wanted to start a business - you could get things going with a bit more security than if you just told the boss to stick it. Or you could do a Masters degree in a year.

There are tons of really useful things you could do with that. If you can afford the wage cut of course.

That's exactly what I was planning to do when the idea was floated at my place.

The working during term time only would be absolutely ideal for me...wonder if they will offer it to prospective employees although one would assume they would not be hiring right now if they want people to take pay cuts.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Which would be just my luck.....I could do a good job for someone but I just cannot work during the school holidays and the amount of people applying for school based employment is an absolute nightmare.

agreed,RM of old would have been great for me and my 'plans'
could have done a full time nightshift which would allowed the OH to work FT with no chilcare issues as i would have been home by 8am easy
or part time and allowing me to study FT (probably)
alas as usual i missed the boat lol
