Car selling

Hi there. First time poster. I'm currently selling my car, a Mini One I've had since new four years ago. I put an ad in Auto Trader and since then I've been bombarded with calls from different companies trying to get me to use their service to help sell the car. What all of these companies do (they all appear to be based on the same business model) is offer to match my car with buyers who are registered with them. The way they make most of their money (so they say) is through financing the second-hand car deal for the buyer. However, they also ask for a £79 one off payment which will be refunded if the car is sold. I can see the advantage of the buyer using this service because these companies offer a three month warranty on the purchase, but is this just a scam to get suckers like me to part with £79?

Yes (and some more characters to get over the minimum length restriction)

Its a scamity scam scam with bonus scam on top.

I offered to pay one company 10 times their fee, AFTER they sold my car. They refused. Shows how confident they are methinks ;)
  • Bill, I concur with what everyone says above; these agencies are like vultures bombarding you with calls saying that "they have got a buyer lined up with cash in your local area" - Its jsut a scam to get your money. If your car is priced to sell and in demand - just like the Mini One is - then you'll have no trouble selling it to a genuine buyer.
