Re negotiating advise please!

My husband and I are in the process of re negotiating the price of the property following a damp survey. The survey quoted around £2800 work needed doing. We asked for the vendors to take this off house price. They agreed to £2500, this is the amount we agreed to pay for fixtures and fittings and their proposal is to just get rid of this but keep the property price the same. Husband disagrees but as I think about it what difference does it actually make. It would cost us £300 but that's not really much? Husband seems to think it makes a difference if they don't take it off the sale price of the property? Can anyone explain the difference?

Thanks you!

I'm not really sure I understand! Would they not be leaving any fixtures and fittings if they paid this £2500? As it would be for the survey work instead of fixtures and fittings? The way I see it, f&f should be a totally separate entity:
You pay £2500 for F&F (and receive whatever they are leaving in return for this money)
They pay £2500 for the work. Whether they choose to use F&F money to complete this work or raise the money from somewhere else, it makes no difference to you.

I don't think it needs to come off the sale price really, will they be getting the work done themselves or will you be doing it when you move in? If you're doing it, you may as well scrap F&F and just keep that money. I really hope that makes sense!
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.
  • Thanks princessamy. We would be doing the work ourselves, I agree with you about just keeping the F &F and using that. Thank you
