New Modem Problem

My BT Voyager 205 ADSL Router has become unreliable and is getting very hot. It being quite old now I thought it was time to replace it.
I bought a 210 ADSL router and an identical 205 from Ebay, thinking it would just be a matter of swapping the machines, but when I do this I have no connectivity at all.
If I unplug the new machine my computer throws up a pop up window to tell me that a network lead is unplugged, so it appears to notice that the modem is there. I've tried the connectivity wizard without success.
I presume I'm missing out an important step somewhere and maybe this isnt quite as straightforward as plug and play.
I'm using Windows XP. Can anyoe help me please?

I'd delete this if I knew how - I found that by pressing the little "rest" button with a pin on the back of the modem it fixed my problem.0

Have you installed the drivers for the new modem before plugging it in?
Have a look at:

If you argue with BT a bit (or upgrade your package) you may be able to get a new BT Home Hub for free. Provided you connect to it using the supplied Ethernet cable, you won't even need to configure it.
