Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for American Independance Day! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS chums!
Too hot too hot too hot to sleep! The cat and my OH are like hot water bottles!
Oh Fairyelephant - I got tears in my eyes reading your post - I am more than happy for you both, it is such wonderful wonderful news! Will keep everything crossed for you.
beemuzed - Great to have you back with us and sorry you have been having such a difficult time, and yes, I am loving the garden and how wonderful it all looks and tastes!
EagerLearner!
sistercas - my house sounds like yours. I have a home help who keeps the day to day things going but with me making my OH spend any time we have in the garden, the general untidyness of the place is beginning to pile up rather more than normal!
Bitsy - you do have some work to do! All I can suggest is tackle it in small bits so it doesn't seem overwhelming. List all the jobs needed to do down to the smallest detail and tick each one off which makes you feel good!
kjsam - glad you are both feeling better
Melli -
to the thread and thank you for de-lurking!
snoozer - I hope your dad rallies once he is at home and happier.
I wasn't feeling up to going into the garden yesterday and when my OH watered for me, he came back in and was all excited that we had the first green pepper in the greenhouse - about 4 inches long apparently and on the back of the plant so he hadn't noticed it before. Anyway he decided to lift the plant out and bring it inside for me to see, bless him, so I wouldn't miss out. The only problem with the plan was that he knocked the plant against the shelf of the greenhouse and the pepper fell off!! He bought it inside but it wasn't quite as exciting as seeing it growing! Had to giggle at his dejected face though..
Ok, if you are having breakfast while reading this then skip this paragraph. I think the drug that I am on for my diabetes is giving me side effects. It is supposed to stop your stomach from emptying so fast which if you are trying to lose weight can be a real bonus. However I haven't noticed feeling any less hungry but I am more constipated and have the most horrendous stomach ache and nausea because of it. I am eating no differently now than I was before I started the drug except with less sugar of course and I never suffered from constipation before! It happens just about every other night and lasts for a couple of hours. I go all hot and cold too for about an hour while the pain is at its worse. I need to rethink how much I eat for dinner I think and try and have supper too perhaps.
Anyway - plans for Saturday are to have corned beef quiche for dinner with salad and strawberries from the garden. Plus I still haven't sorted out the house insurance *sighs*.
I hope you all have a great start to your weekends. Gentle and non sticky
to all who want or need one. Sorry to be so boring today!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning Diva and all who follow
Its a sunny start to the day here but according to the weather it isnt going to last so I'm going to have to work fast.I want to sand restain all the garden furniture. After re-arranging the garden its made me realise how neglected it looks and theres so much space out there now that I want to enjoy it and make it look its best.Unfortunately I threw the stain away a few weeks ago thinking I didnt need it:eek:So need a quick nip into town to buy a very small tin.I also need to dig the sandpaper out which is no mean feat in our crowded shed:mad:.Hopefully if the weather forecast is correct the rain shouldnt arrive till 2pm and be gone by 5pm so If I get the barbeque scrubbed back into shape I think we'll have a barbecue for tea.But best laid plans and all that:D
I've spent all week being a good little housefrau and have followed my cleaning rota to the letter so today and tomorrow my house will only need a tidy and a quick vac so more time for fun things with the kids:T
FE-I'm delighted about the baby and I'm keeping my thoughts positive that its where it should be and we are all going to be virtual aunties on this thread in a few months:beer:
JackieO- great news about the hospital appointment. It must be a huge weight off your mind

Morning.
July 4th holiday for Americans... We are a bit American as my daugfhter was born there and we lived there for 2 years... so got to join in. Got an invite to the US Navy base near here for food and fireworks, should be great..... I took the day off work to participate.
Not much else going on rain and showers. Murray mania is over thankfully. How many people seriously thought he would win? :rotfl: He crumbled like every other player for the past 60 years. Sad is'nt it?
Have a good day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi Everyone :hello:
MSD - hope you get your problem sorted, I guess with all the changes it will take your body a while to settle down.
Lovely day here today, sunny but fresh. Unfortunately the harvest bugs are out so the house has loads of tiny black dots everywhere which will need to be hoovered up at some point - then they will come back againreally cant see the point of these bugs.
Am popping into town this morning with the kids, DS needs (his words) to go to WHS and I do really need to go to boots. Will treat ourselves from the bakers over.
Other than that its mooching around the house, washing ironing and all the normal stuff.
Have chicken legs and thighs dor dinner and I plan to try a new potato dish - new pots with bacon and cheese. Also Total Wipeout is back on tonight :j
Have a great Saturday.
x
Oh yes, Thanks N9eav - Happy 4th July - sounds like you will be having a fantastic day.0 -
Morning peeps
nice and sunny today in South Yorkshire, looks like we are in for another warm day. The washing is on the line and i managed to do a small amount of ironing again this morning before leaving for w*rk, very quiet here today so fingers crossed that it will stay that way. Yesterday ended up being rather busy so i need a quieter day to balance everything out
I called home earlier and DH is going to empty the dw and take the yogurt out of the yogurt maker for me before he leaves the house, he was up extra early today - i rang home about 6am and he was already out in the park with the houndies, i though that he would still be in bed
Tea tonight will be salad and maybe tuna, i shall rummage around in the freezer when i get home. Two more boxes in the spare room were sorted out yesterday, if i sort through a couple each week i should soon have some space in there:rolleyes: it is very cluttered but as soon as i knuckle down to it i find things that i haven`t seem for ages and want to look through every little thing
The tomatoes are appearing in the greenhouse and i`m very pleased :j i did think that i was going to lose a lot of the plants after they were all found on the floor a few mornings ago - still no idea what had sneaked in there overnight but it seems that all will be ok. The door is now firmly closed every night.
Melli - Welcome to the daily - i lurked for a good while too before posting
Sistercas - i remember the famous five and secret seven toodid you read the St Clares series or Mallory Towers?
Fairy Elephant - Congratulations :j
Pooky - Your neighbours sound lovely! just like our old ones before we moved, wish we could have brought them with us. Our new neighbours are nice too but i really miss the old ones.
Offski to do some w*rk now as i have company
Have a lovely day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Hello everyone, I'm a long-time lurker and I finally decided to join as a member. My names Rosie and you might guess from the name that I'm from Coventry. My life is fairly OS (picked up a lot of tips from here!) but I keep find that we're falling off the wagon - this week I've had to chuck food out for the first time in ages and I'm not happy about it! But on the plus side, we're getting crops from the garden now, so lots of free salad, new potatoes and peas are on the way!
I'm frazzled after work this week so I'm going to take advantage of the unexpected good drying weather that we've got this morning and get lots of laundry done, but other than that I thought I'd just have a mooch around the pound shops and see if there are any bargains. I'm quite disciplined now, even if its only £1 I do a mental calculation of whether it's worth it and whether I need it
Other half is off to the Godiva Festival tonight, the festival itself is free but he'll want drinking money, they banned people from taking drinks in with them and a friend who went yesterday said that pints of beer are £4.50 and even a soft drink is £2  How do I limit him to one or two without being a killjoy? I tried talking to him about it and it's quite clear that he thinks he should have a night off from being careful with money - but I don't think we've got enough leeway with our budget for nights off! The only other plan I can think of is to pack him off with just a tenner and encourage him to drive there...
Anyway I'm rambling. I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!0 -
morning all!
will read the rest of yesterdays thread soon, just got back from my sleep-in at work. I'm off to Mum's soon to have a garage sale with her and my sister - fingers crossed we can shift some stuff!
Washing machine on
house reasonably clean and tidy
need to go grocery shopping later
lawns need mowing(might have to leave till tomorrow)
DS1 and his partner are off to Falmouth later for a weeks hols - I will be worrying about him driving all that way. DS2 is off on the train to Hereford to meet some friends so need to take him to the station which is 10 miles away.
Hope you all have a great weekend
take care xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Good morning and Happy 4th july
I had a really good night sleep even though it was 26c, i'm so surprised i have to keep looking at the clock, must be relaxing finally after travel and seeing family off on their hols. DS3 txt me when they landed at 10 [uk time]in barbados
'so you can go to bed now mum' :j dear child!
Tackleing their kitchen today,a thorough spring clean so stardrops and black bags at the ready.....
Must remember to sort all rubbish into right bins though as here in germany they seem to have different bins for everything, paper, tins, plastics, plastic bottles you get money back, compost ,glass and even more confusing is that different bins get put out on different days and in different parts of the street!!!
Anyhow, dont know what to have foodwise today, duck under the table and out the other side i expect :rotfl:
Melli, welcome to os
have a cool day everyone

Morning all,
Been awake since 6 , why is it that always happens on a saturday, OH and I had a nice quiet night in last night, with a bottle of wine  (for me, he doesnt drink at the moment ) and a takeaway, it was very quiet without dd, I cant wait for her to come home tonight :T.
So tonight we are having the pasta with fresh pea (from my garden) thing, I need to get some small new potatoes to go in it too.
Essex girl, let me know how the potato thing goes, it sounds lovely.
First load of washing is on the line, and 2nd in wm, need to do dd'd school uniform when she gets back, its a beautiful day here, so it should all dry.
I am waiting for OH to get back from the car boot sale, and then we are going to have a fry up with Pinks potato bread, mushrooms, bacon and egg :T.
I need to hoover through and mop floors, and then pop to the local town for a few bits, then get out walking for the afternoon, my legs need a good stretch.
Taplady, well done to your DS :T
Julie well done to your OH, mine passed his driving test about a year ago, after much nagging from me, I was fed up with driving everywhere, he loves it now, and can't understand why he didn't do it earlier
Diva, I hope you get your little problem sorted soon, it can be VERY uncomfortable.
Welcome to Melli, and Covgirl xx
Ok, I need more tea, will be back later, have good days all xx
Oh I was thinking about Martyn last night, anyone remember him ? he moved up North somewhere to be with his 'Jooles', I wonder how they are getting on.0 -
Morning all:j:j
Well we were haveing a bit of a boring day yesterday when we ended up at the docs with twin two who has come out with exma (sorry carnt spell it) All over her back. She was crying her eyes up with it.
Now two days ago was when we first found it and it was only a small amout on her shoulder. We have been treeting it with E45. We yesrteday afternoon she started to cry for no resion and would not stop. We took her t-shirt off as she was very hot and the exma had spred all over her back within a few hours:eek: Anyway we phoned the docs and got in at the end of sergary yesterday afteroon. Doc said that it was very bad and the heat was what had caused it to spred so quick and what had made it more sore for her.
Anyway we have got some steroid cream ofv the doc for her just hot to try and keep her as cool as we can and put the cream on 3 times a day.
She has got up this morning and its a lot better alredy:T:T
Off to a church summy fair today and also need to go to a supermeket later on too. As we are low on food stuffs. So busy day ahead.
The twins are off to my wifes moms house so at least we dont have to drag them around with us.
Well i hope that evertyone has a great day
enjoy yourselfs everone:j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning all
Redruby - yes, your link does work - lovely photos - very cute dog!
MSD - sorry to hear the new drug is upsetting you. Don't forget to drink plenty - it's amazing how much fluid we lose in this weather. Peppers already - I'm so envious! My little plants are doing nothing but dropping leaves, I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Halight - eczema is miserable - glad to hear twin two is feeling better.
Covgirl & Melli - welcome to the thread
Eagerlearner - :bdaycake:
I have a very peaceful day ahead, DD2 is at work and OH has gone to the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. Have already done a bit of weeding but am going to spend most of the day decluttering I think.
Have a good day all. Sorry if I've missed anyone - have just scanned the thread quickly. ((((hugs)))) to anyone in need.
